2010 Resolutions

“Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right.” -Oprah Winfrey

“We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year's Day.” ~Edith Lovejoy Pierce

Looks like my resolutions for this year are very similar to last year’s.
I accomplished some last year, but it would be great to finally be more diligent about keeping those darn resolutions ALL YEAR LONG.

Here’s this year’s list:

1. Become a better teacher. Develop a good relationship with my AVID students. Listen more. Organize my classroom. Spend more time grading papers. Help students with writing. Come up with new lesson plans. Inspire.
2. Run. Run. Run. More races this year. Run long distances and short.
3. Eat out less. Make better choices. Lose weight.
4. Drink more good stuff and less bad stuff.
5. Create new habits. Keep them. Blog, floss, exercise daily.
6. Travel.
7. Read more. Watch television less. Book clubs every month.
8. Fix up apartment. Decorate. Prepare guest room.
9. Make better choices. Don’t do anything that I wouldn’t do, literally. Just like Valerie said, “Describe it as if you’re describing it to a friend. What would you advise your friend to do?”
10. Become a more positive person.

Helen Fielding, Bridget Jones's Diary said it best with: I do think New Year's resolutions can't technically be expected to begin on New Year's Day, don't you? Since, because it's an extension of New Year's Eve, smokers are already on a smoking roll and cannot be expected to stop abruptly on the stroke of midnight with so much nicotine in the system. Also dieting on New Year's Day isn't a good idea as you can't eat rationally but really need to be free to consume whatever is necessary, moment by moment, in order to ease your hangover. I think it would be much more sensible if resolutions began generally on January the second.

Wishing you all a healthy and happy new year!
-Dano
